Wywiady Klubowe: Rozmowa z Agnieszką Malonik Taggart

Kraj/ kraje / przyczyna Twojej emigracji to...

Obejmuje to wszystko takie aspekty jak negocjacje, kontrakty, opracowywanie procedur dotyczących zakupów i płatności, no i oczywiście wybór i współpraca z dostawcami i resztą firmy.

Zawsze byłam szarą myszką, przeciętną do bólu.
I w pewnym momencie ludzie, a konkretnie moi pracodawcy, zaczęli to doceniać.

Our Cosmetic Experience: December

This year I am going to write more about the cosmetics which have used/tried. Some people call it a 'bottom project' but since the word 'bottom' has different meanings in English, I call my post series 'Our Cosmetic Experience'. To be more specific, every month, having emptied a container/containers of a certain product/products, I am planning to tell you what we think about them - what our opinion about them is (some products are consulted by my husband as well).

Please, take note that our opinion on the cosmetics is influenced by our personal skin/beauty profiles. You can check out my cosmetic profile here.

The first post of that kind is connected with the three types of balm which we finished using Last December.

1.  I have already written about the hand cream by Neutrogena. Its rich formula helps the very dry, cracked and rough skin. The cream consistency looks more like a transparent gel to me. It is quite quickly absorbed by the very dehydrated skin. My hands are only a bit on the dry side so, every time when I needed to use the hand cream, I only applied a little of it. Otherwise, my hands were covered with a sticky film of the cosmetic, which I did not like. It all made the cream very efficient and last really long.
This kind of hand cream brings relief to the hands if they happened to be exposed to the cold winter weather conditions.

The tube contains 2 oz/56g of the hand cream
Price:  $3.96 at Walmart*
$4.99 at Walgreens*

* online stores prices

Our pros
- good for very dry and cracked skin - improves its condition,
- efficient,
- unscented,
- good price.

Would we buy it again? I do not know.

2. We happened to receive the sample of Gold Bond Ultimate Hydrating Lotion when we purchased a totally different item.

I could see it was a 'for man' product but I wanted to try it too. As soon as I spread it on my hands, I could smell a pleasant, cologne-like fragrance. At the same time, I thought to myself: ' What a nice, manly scent!'. Apart from that, I could see how nice it felt on the skin as well.

The lotion has a smooth consistency which spreads on the skin easily and evenly. The lotion is quickly absorbed as well. After the application, the skin appears smoother and pleasantly hydrated.

The lotion smells really manly/fine but (unfortunately to me) it defines the cosmetic as a man's body care item.

According to the information on the tube, the lotion can be used as body, hands and face moisturizer. We did not try it on the face, though.

What I found interesting

The formula of Gold Bond Ultimate Hydrating Lotion is enriched with:
  • glyceryl stearate - which gives the skin smoothness and softness,
  • dimethicone - skin conditioning agent,
  • aloe barbadensis leaf juice,
  • hydrolyzed rice proteins,
  • silk amino acids,
  • panthenol,
  • hydrolyzed jojoba esters,
  • magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (Vitamin C),
  • tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E acetate),
  • glycerin.

All in all, we liked the sample so we bought a regular size of the Lotion.

The tube contained 0.75 oz/21 g  of the body lotion

3. Dermasil Body Balm - we like it. I used it to treat my hands and feet as well. The opening of the tube is big enough, which makes the dosage of the lotion really convenient. The formula of the cream is rather thick but soft as well. However, while applying it, sometimes I had a feeling the lotion spread not evenly on the skin of my body so I had to reapply it. Regrettably, it made the lotion last shorter.

On the other hand, I really like some of the lotion ingredients:
  • sunflower seed oil,
  • geranium maculatum oil,
  • lecithin,
  • borago officinalis (starflower) seed oil,
  • ascorbyl palmitate - a fatty acid obtained from ascorbyl acid/Vitamin C,
  • sweet almond oil,
  • sandalwood oil,
  • rosa damascena extract,
  • vanilla planifolia fruit extract.
All in all, good quality considering a very low price.

The tube contained 10 oz/296 ml  of the body lotion
Price: $1 at Dollar Tree

Our pros:
- paraben free,
- good for dry skin - body, hands and feet,
- hypoallergenic,
- inexpensive.

Would we buy it again? Yes.

Here they are!

The calendar was issued by ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
Size: 8.5 inches x 10.7 inches / 21.7 cm x 27.5 cm

This calendar is a bit smaller than the one with pets.
Size: around 7.2 inches x 7.1 inches / 18.2 cm x 18.1 cm

All the calendars are very nice - I would keep them all but since we have already got some other ones (I wrote about them in a January post), I would like to share them with someone who needs a calendar for 2017. I am going to give away the three calendars - one calendar daily. To take part in the giveaway, please check up my Facebook page (starting tomorrow). If there is more than one person per day interested in getting a free calendar, I will draw the name of a winner.

Hope you like the calendars too. It would be a pity if they were stored in a drawer only instead of being displayed.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday this week - just leave a comment under a daily calendar post on my Facebook page.

My Music ABC: K (update), L, M & N

I do not know why I forgot to mention KING CRIMSON in my previous K related 'My Music ABC' post.

They are my most favorite K of all! Sophisticated compositions and lots of emotional, calm pieces. Some are quite dramatic as well (e.g. Starless).

In the 80s I taped their albums (thanks to the Polish Radio Program/Station 3). I did not follow their later career/ albums. Anyway, Lizard is the album by King Crimson which I like best. A multidimensional compilation of divine note lines and the singer's voice/interpretation.

There was also a Polish progressive rock band KLAN - they were often called 'fathers of the Polish rock'. I can still remember two of their songs listed in My Hit Parade below this post.

I like the video made by some Polish students of Automatics much later than the song (1970) was written.

LED ZEPPELIN - yes, of course, but only their studio albums. Their life performances (e.g. the ones showed in the movie The Song remains the Same) do not appeal to me at all.

LEONARD COHEN - I happened to miss mentioning him and his music when I wrote the C letter post.
I learned about his songs in the early 80s, thanks to the Polish artist Maciej Zembaty who translated Cohen's songs and sang the Polish versions (Polish Radio Program 3 again). Then I started my interest in the original music creations by Cohen. It is a very special kind of musical expression and artistic presentation. However, as it is with all the music which I listen to, I like the songs by Cohen by I could not listen to them only all the time.

LIVIN' BLUES (a Dutch blues band). They performed in Poland too and I had an album with their songs. Some of them I quite liked as well.

METALLICA - a big Yes! I like their older albums best.

I used to have a cassette with my favorite album by Metallica - Ride the Lightning.

The songs which I like most? For example: For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Thing That Should Not Be, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Orion, One, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters.

I can hear European rock roots in Metallica's songs - rough but great notes. Probably thanks to Lars Ulrich and his European background. What I mean is that most American rock music and rock riffs seem much softer. I grew up listening to European/ British music/bands and their rougher sound is what I personally prefer and find more interesting. That is why I hardly ever mention American music groups in my posts. Do not get me wrong, it does not mean that I do not listen to American singers at all. On the contrary. However, most of my music favorites are connected with Europe anyway.

And that is why, the next on my list is THE MOODY BLUES (a Dutch band again), particularly some of their songs including Nights in White Satin. No special memories connected with it - just the music itself.

Classical M

I need to mention Polish composer STANISŁAW MONIUSZKO - known as 'the father' of the Polish opera.

Finally, a note about the N - NAZARETH - from Scotland. In the past, I used to dislike all the sweet pop bands, including the sugary hits by Nazareth. I always liked their This Flight to Night, though.

Movies Monthly: December 2016

What was on in December?

Vikings came back - according to us - with, so far, the most interesting season of all.

We watched a couple of the new MacGyver episodes. Just to see what the new series is like. Well, the main character looks as if he was 17 or 19 years old. When did he manage to learn all the MacGyver's stuff? The plot in the current series seems to be more developed than in the old one, with more characters around. It was interesting in a way. However, we preferred when each episode was a closed chapter. Thanks to that, if you missed a few episodes or watched them in a random order, you did not miss anything.

I did not like the visuals (additional info on what MacGyver did or used) added in the new series. Such visual elements seem to be common nowadays - written text messages, phone screen shots and such. I am not keen on that type of graphic effects in a movie as I find them disturbing/interrupting. My mind works more independently and less schematically than an iPhone - I do not need to see the text of the messages or somebody's face on the phone communicator, I am able to imagine things and understand them without a written tip given a movie screen.

All in all, the only real MacGyver is the original one.

Our shows of December were:

813. Judgement Night - 1993 (action, crime, drama), with Emilio Estevez.
815. Celtic Woman - Home for Christmas -  Concert in Ireland - a best Christmas show on our list.

822. The Age of Adeline - 2015 (drama, fantasy) - quite an interesting story.

850. Child 44 - 2015 (crime, thriller) - a very different detective story - set in the Soviet Union. With a very different detective (different from the other ones we watched).

854. Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir - another great music concert.

860. Hollow Crown -The War of the Roses: Richard III - a play by BBC - with a stunning role created by Benedict Cumberbatch.

873. Shaolin - 2011 (action, drama) - we thought it would be another movie with Jackie Chan - more or less similar to all the other ones - full of funny scenes and his adventures but Shaolin is not that kind of movie at all. Although J. Chan appears in it, his part is a minor one (well, yes, a few funny gags too). All the movie is about something else - without Chan's participation as the main actor. Chinese production with English subtitles - certainly worth watching.

In case if you do not know what the numbers next to the film titles mean - in December, we finished our 2016 counting project.

The results:
in the year 2016, we watched 878 various shows including different kinds of films, music concerts, documentaries, natural history shows, cartoons, and others. We would have watched more if we had not traveled in November.

This year I am planning to continue my Movies Monthly report, but I am not going to count the programs anymore.

How many movies did you watch last year?
