Colonel Nicholas Greenberry

Col. Nicholas Greenberry, 4th Royal Governor of Maryland, was born in Lincolnshire, England on 15 Dec. 1640 to Nicholas Greenberry and Katherine Haukins.

Lincolnshire, England

In 1674, Nicholas Jr. sailed to America with his wife Anne and two children (Charles and Catherine) on the ship Constant Friendship. They settled in Maryland.

his daughter Katherine (Greenberry) Howard (b. about 1670-1674 in Middlesex, England/d. 29 Dec. 1704, Anne Arundel County, Province of Maryland) + husband Capt. John Howard Jr. (b. about 1667, Middle Neck Hundred, Anne Arundel, Province of Maryland)

her daughter Katherine (Howard) Griffith (b. about 1703, Anne Arundel County, Province of Maryland/d. 7 Feb. 1783, Anne Arundel County, Maryland) + husband Orlando Griffith (b. 17 Oct. 1688, Anne Arundel County, Province of Maryland)

William Griffith (of Cardigan, Wales) who was Orlando's father came to Maryland in 1675.

Cardigan, Wales

The Griffith family was one of the pioneer families of Anne Arundel County in Maryland.

Orlando Griffith was a grandson of the second wife of Capt. John Howard Jr., Elinor McCubbin - he has been already mentioned in the posts about the Howard family connections.

Orlando's home was known as White Place. In 1728, he became a vestry member of Queen Caroline Parish, and occupied pew No. 8, together with Capt. John Howard and Nicholas Dorsey.

Nicholas Dorsey Sr.  (b. about 1690, Maryland/d. Sept. 1717, All Hallows Parish, Maryland) is our direct ancestor as well. His son Col. Nicholas Dorsey Jr. (b. about 1712, Maryland/d. 1780) Sarah A Griffith (b. 13 May 1718/d. 1 Sept. 1794), Orlando's daughter.

The direct family line which goes from Orlando Griffith to our great-grandmother Jurita was already described in the post related to Mr. Harry Truman.

her daughter Rachel Annie (Dorsey) Holbrook

  his son Samuel Asberry Holbrook
  his daughter Mary (Holbrook) Hagood/Haygood
