When Gerard was nine years old, the family moved to Noxubee County Mississippi. Gerard Alexander Foote attended Centenary college in Mississippi.
In 1845, Dr. Foote came to Collin County. A year later, he became the surgeon of Capt. William Fitzhugh's Texas Rangers. On 11 Nov. 1847, our man married Miss Eliza Jane McGarrah, the daughter of Colonel J. McGarrah.
Gerard Alexander Foote practiced and studied medicine at the same time. In 1856, Mr. Foote graduated from Memphis Medical College. Besides being a local GP, during the Civil War, G A Foote also served as a surgeon in the 11th Texas Confederate Cavalry (under Col. William Young).
The doctor was dedicated to his work and the citizens of the local community.
Mr. G A Foote assisted in organizing a charter of St. John's Lodge in Collin County. He was also a member of Knights Templar McKinney Commandery No. 34.
Later, Dr. Gerard was also a member of the Texas legislature and, together with Mr. Henry C Herndon ran a Foote & Herndon drugstore in McKinney.
In 1880, Dr. Foote switched from merchandising to financial business - he was a co-founder of Collin County Bank and became its president.
Gerard's wife passed away on 13 September 1889. About nine years later, on 11 April 1898, Mr. Foote married Miss Corinne Lee from Clarksville, Texas.
Gerard Alexander Foote lived 78 years, 9 months, and 18 days. The man died at 9:20 am on Thursday, 17 July 1902, in his house in McKinney.
