Wahrmund Family - More Stories

In one of the previous posts, I mentioned William Wahrmund's house. There is another Wahrmund house in Fredericksburg, TX. The other one belonged to Mr. George Wahrmund who lived there with his wife Elise and their children.

George Wahrmund was born on 18 Dec. 1853 (1), he was the son of Mr. Philip Ludwig Friedrich "Louis" Wahrmund and Miss Susanne Ressemann. George became a cabinet maker. On 10 July 1875 (2), 22-year-old George and his year younger fiancee Miss Elise Schmidt (the daughter of Jacob Smith) were issued a marriage license.

The young ones married on the next day (3). A year later the house in Fredericksburg was built.

In two of its front rooms, Elise ran a millinery dressmakers shop. The couple had at least three children - girls Louise (b.1877), Edna (b. 1881) and Olivia (b.1866).

Around 1925, the family moved to San Antonio where they lived at 120 St. Dennis St. the house probably still stands there.

George passed on 1 September 1937 due to apoplexy (4). Elise lived 6 years longer. She died on 20 July 1943.

Before I close the last post related to the Wahrmund family, two more newspaper notes:

• It happened on Thursday, 13 August 1942. Mr. Hilmar Alfred Wahrmund boldly dealt with a chicken snake and saved his two daughters Viola Laura (b. 1924) and Mary Welma (b. 1928).

• A car accident which occurred due to a flat tire, on Sunday, at the end of August 1943 left Mr. Ernst Carl August Wahrmund and his wife Ida Karoline slightly injured. Leroy who was driving the car was the couple's son Leroy Willie (b. 1924).

A few years later, Leroy was enlisted for the Panama Canal Department and served int the Air Forces.  You can read more details related to his registration here.
