Opal Orreon McIntosh

The post is dedicated to our aunt Opal Orreon McIntosh.

She was born on 5 Feb. 1911 in Marshall, Harrison, Texas to Samuel Hollie McIntosh and Ethel B. Lollar. The girl was the couple's first child.

Nine years later, the Census recorded Opal and the family in Justice Precinct 6, Harrison, Texas.

There is an error in the above record. Opal's sibling age 3 was not a girl Vernona, but a boy Samuel Vernon (b. 4 Dec. 1916).

Opal Orreon completed 8 years of elementary school education. Sgot married when she was 16. Her spouse was Mr. Samuel Francis Gulley (b. 20 March 1902 in Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches County, Texas).

The first Texas English-language newspaper was published in Nacogdoches in 1820

He was the son of Samuel Gulley and Elizabeth Reed.

Sam ran a farm. At the beginning of their marriage, the spouses lived with their children in Harrison County, TX not far from the place where Opal's parents had their farm and house (1).

In 1940 Opal, Sam and their 3 children Sam Lloyd, Gloria Gladys, Bobby Glynn and Sam's mother Lizzie lived in a different place at Justice Precinct 3. However, generally, it was still the same area, Harrison, Texas (2). Opal and Sam had another daughter named Viola (b. 2 August 1932). The girl probably died before 1940 since she was not recorded during that year's Census.

Aunt Opal passed away two years later, on 4 January 1942. I do not know what was the cause of her death.

In his early 50s, Samuel worked as an electric helper with REA - Rural Electrification Administration. He died from an electric shock on 5 Jan 1954 (3).

Regrettably, we neither have any photographs of aunt Opal's nor her immediate family.
